This CLE is designed to equip juvenile law attorneys with essential knowledge and resources necessary to support and improve outcomes for juvenile justice-involved youth. This view from the bench will provide a brief overview of diversion and probation, will focus on detention, sentencing, and alternatives, and then wrap up with a review of institutions, community facilities, and programs. The objective is to provide a foundational knowledge to cross-system juvenile law attorneys, attorneys considering a practice in juvenile justice, or those desiring a refresher course.

KING COUNTY DISTRICT COURT CIVIL PRO TEM JUDGE TRAINING TO BE HELD FEBRUARY 9 – 13, 2026
Applications due NOVEMBER 21, 2025
King County District Court invites applications from attorneys who would like to be considered for service as a judge pro tempore and to attend the Court’s civil pro tem training classes in February 2026.
Class dates
Case type focus – Mainstream Civil
The February 2026 pro tem training classes will focus on mainstream civil cases, which include torts, contracts, and some statutory actions. Pro tem judges will rule upon ex parte matters, as well as preside over motions calendars that include motions such as default judgment, summary judgment, pre-trial motions, or post-judgment motions. Pro tem judges may preside over jury and non-jury civil trials.

Pro tem requirements
To be considered for the pro tem classes, you must be an active member in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association and have a minimum of five years of civil practice experience. King County District Court encourages applicants of diverse backgrounds. For additional details, refer to the Court’s Pro Tem Policy.

To be considered for the February 2026 Civil pro tem training classes, please email the following three items to stacy.wikle@kingcounty.gov by 5 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025.
