    Complex Litigation Strategic Counseling Associate

    Industrial Appeals Judge 4 (Review Judge)

    About the BIIA: The BIIA is a medium-sized state agency under the administration of three, full-time Board Members. The BIIA is independent from the Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) and hears appeals from decisions made by L&I in several areas. The three principal types of appeals are:

    • Industrial insurance (workers' compensation)
    • Safety citations under the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA)
    • Employer Premiums (Tax Assessment or Classification)

    The Hearings Judge presides over conferences and hearings where evidence is presented pursuant to the Rules of Evidence and Superior Court Rules, and issues written decisions resolving appeals filed under the Industrial Insurance Act, Crime Victims Compensation Act, Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act, and other acts as determined by the Legislature.

    The Review Judge typically reviews written proposed decisions and orders of Industrial Appeals Judges, applications for claim resolution settlement agreements, and other various motions. The Review Judge then recommends action to the Board members in written memoranda and drafts final orders for signature of the Board. Review Judges may also conduct mediation and settlement conferences and prepare orders on agreement of parties.

    Legal Operations & Executive Assistant (Part-Time, Remote)

    Sound Solutions Law PLLC is a growing Washington-based municipal law practice serving cities, counties, special purpose districts, and other public agencies. We are seeking a highly organized, proactive, and tech-savvy Legal Operations & Executive Assistant to support the firm's continued growth.

    Position Details

    • Fully remote

    • Independent Contractor (1099)

    • Approximately 15–20 hours per week to start

    • Flexible schedule, with availability during normal business hours preferred

    • Opportunity for additional hours as the practice grows

    • Compensation: $40–$60 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

    • This position is an independent contractor (1099) engagement and does not include employee benefits.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage attorney calendar, scheduling, and meeting coordination

    • Support client intake and onboarding

    • Maintain electronic files and matter organization

    • Assist with document preparation, formatting, and proofreading

    • Manage tasks, deadlines, and workflows within Clio and Microsoft 365

    • Coordinate communications with clients, consultants, and vendors

    • Assist with billing and administrative operations

    • Provide general executive and administrative support

    Required Qualifications

    • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint)

    • Strong technology aptitude and ability to learn new systems quickly

    • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail

    • Excellent written communication and proofreading skills

    • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities

    • Experience managing digital files, workflows, databases, or administrative systems

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with Clio or similar legal practice management software

    • Experience supporting attorneys, executives, public agency leaders, or business owners

    • Experience working in a law firm, local government, public agency, or other professional services environment

    About the Ideal Candidate

    The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently. They enjoy keeping projects, schedules, records, and administrative operations running smoothly while maintaining a high level of professionalism and client service.

    Legal experience is helpful, but strong organizational, communication, and technology skills are most important.
