    Job Summary: We are seeking a proactive, detailed-oriented, and organized paralegal for work on several large, related toxic tort cases. The following are the job responsibilities for this position:

    • Save and organize all client-related files and pleadings, including in the Prolaw database.
    • Calendar court deadlines.
    • Schedule and calendar meetings and conference calls for attorneys.
    • Monitor deadlines across cases and advise attorneys in advance of such deadlines to ensure they are met.
    • Order records as directed by the attorneys (e.g., client medical records, public records, etc.).
    • Conduct investigations and informal (third-party) discovery in support of the case.
    • Interview witnesses.
    • Research of defendants, witnesses, and potential jurors.
    • Draft discovery to serve on defendants.
    • Download and organize incoming production from defendants and save to client file and/or discovery database.
    • Draft responses to discovery.
    • Organize and prepare documents for production to defendants in discovery.
    • Organize and prepare documents for experts.
    • Handle all deposition logistics (e.g. prepare notices, arrange for the court reporter, etc.).
    • Assist attorneys in locating documents for use at deposition, in court filings, and at trial.
    • Review and summarize documents, highlighting important evidence for attorneys.
    • Draft chronologies and timelines for attorneys.
    • Draft substantive declarations.
    • Draft correspondence for attorney review.
    • Prepare basic pleadings for attorney review.
    • E-file materials with the court in compliance with court rules.
    • Provide support to attorneys during trial preparation and trial.
    • Other assistance as needed.

    Experience, Skills, and Qualifications:

    • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience supporting a litigation practice.
    • Working knowledge of state court rules, including electronic filing procedures.
    • Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working under a deadline.
    • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently, with self-motivation, initiative, and follow up.
    • Ability to prioritize directions from supervising attorneys/paralegals.
    • Aptitude for problem solving technology and software related questions.
    • Represent the firm in a professional and ethical manner at all times.
    • Strong, compassionate, and inclusive approach to teamwork.
    • Experience with ProLaw and Digital War Room software preferred.
    • An interest in helping people seek justice.

    Reporting Relationships

    Location & Schedule

Most of our employees, including paralegals, work a hybrid schedule, with the option to work remotely up to three days a week. Additional in-office work and work during evening hours and weekends should be expected on occasion, such as during a trial.

    Description of position: Costco Wholesale is seeking an experienced litigation attorney to join the legal team at its corporate headquarters in Issaquah, WA. Costco is one of the world’s top retailers, with over 127 million cardholders and 870 warehouses in 14 countries, and continues to expand globally. This attorney will primarily focus on claims and litigation-related matters. Primary responsibilities include handling filed or threatened litigation, including class actions and regulatory matters; interfacing with suppliers and business clients; overseeing the process of responding to third-party subpoenas and supplier-related bankruptcy issues, as well as patent and intellectual property litigation. Knowledge of environmental regulations is also a plus. Additional responsibilities include working on processes and projects to mitigate risk and promote compliance. This individual will have at least seven years of experience as a civil litigator defending commercial liability claims and should have experience working with governmental regulatory agencies. The candidate must be adept at identifying legal risks and developing a mitigation strategy by understanding legal issues and translating them into easily understood and practical legal advice and counsel to the applicable business group.     Responsibilities:


    ● Analyze potential claims and develop strategies to eliminate or minimize liability.

    ● Minimum of seven years of experience as a civil litigator required; experience in retail environment and consumer class actions preferred.

    ● Demonstrated experience in building and leading an inclusive culture.

    ● Highly developed writing, editing, and written communication skills.

    ● Excellent analytical abilities and attention to detail, ability to analyze complex litigation and strategies.

    Salary and Benefits:


    The annual base salary range for this position is $150,000 to $180,000, depending upon years of legal experience. In addition to annual base salary, the total compensation package includes an annual grant of restricted stock units ("RSUs") and an annual bonus (based on company and individual performance). The combined value of the bonus and the RSUs is expected to exceed the base salary if the RSUs vest at a share price at or above the grant price. Attorneys are also eligible to participate in the executive deferred compensation plan with a matching contribution from Costco, and receive other executive benefits.
