    KING COUNTY DISTRICT COURT PRO TEM JUDGE TRAINING TO BE HELD OCTOBER 19 – 23, 2026

    Applications due June 30, 2026

    King County District Court (KCDC) invites applications from attorneys who would like to be considered for service as a judge pro tempore and to attend the Court’s pro tem training class series this autumn.

    Class dates

    • Monday, October 19, 2026, through Thursday, October 22, 2026 – 8:45 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
    • Friday, October 23, 2026 – 8:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

    Case type focus

    The October 2026 pro tem training class will focus on criminal, infraction and protection order cases. The Court will not be conducting civil pro tem training in October.

    Online open Houses

    Two online open houses will be held during the application period to answer any questions about the pro tem process. It is strongly recommended that you attend one of these sessions, if you are interested in becoming a pro tem, as the District Court judges will be going over important information for the class.     Pro tem requirements

    To be considered for the pro tem class, you must be an active member in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association and have a minimum of five years of civil or criminal experience as a practicing attorney.  King County District Court encourages applicants of diverse backgrounds. For additional details, refer to the Court’s Pro Tem Policy.

    CLE Credits

    The Court will be applying for 24.75 (2 ethics) hours of WSBA CLE credit for this training. The cost of this training is $750. This amount will be due before the first day of training. Participants will also be compensated for the time spent on KCDC specific work. This compensation generally offsets most of the cost of the training.
