    Incarcerated Parents Project Attorney

     

    Now hiring resource attorney for Incarcerated Parents Project at statewide nonprofit association and resource center for public defenders. The position is responsible for technical assistance to dependency attorneys and criminal defense attorneys representing incarcerated parents, development of resource publications, and coordinating amicus and policy change work. Requirements: Three (3) years of public defense, dependency practice experience, and/or dependency knowledge and criminal justice policy experience, with a strong preference for experience working with incarcerated parents or formerly incarcerated parents. Experience working with low-income clients is preferred.     The Clerk of the Council's office is readvertising the attached amended notice of vacancy because it was brought to our attention that there was an error in the description of the southeast division, leading the reader/applicant to conclude that only residents of the city of Kent could satisfy the residence requirement.   


    Below is the amended notice of vacancy of a position in the Southeast District Court in January 2017. The amended deadline for applications for the position is November 21, 2016.

     AMENDED NOTICEThe Metropolitan King County Council hereby gives notice of judicial vacancy in the Southeast Division of the King County District Court. To be eligible to serve as a district court judge, a person must be a registered voter and legal resident of the Southeast Division’s electoral district. RCW 3.34.060(1); K.C.C. 2.68.075. The election precincts that make up the Southeast Division’s electoral district are set forth in King County Ordinance 18264. A map of the Southeast Division can be found by following the districtcourt map link at http://www.kingcounty.gov/depts/elections/elections/maps.aspx. 

    Those interested in applying are asked to submit their name to a bar association with an established judicial candidate evaluation procedure, as provided by K.C.C. 2.70.020.B, or to the Clerk of the King County Council. In addition, each applicant must complete the evaluation process of at least one bar association that performs judicial evaluations consistent with the provisions of K.C.C. 2.70.020.C. The King County Code requires the King County Bar Association (KCBA) to refer to the Council the names of those candidates receiving the highest ratings, including those receiving the highest rating by any bar association that has an established judicial candidate evaluation system.     Duties

    The Washington State Attorney General's Office's Labor and Personnel Division in Olympia has an opening for an attorney interested in practicing labor and employment law, with a mix of litigation and client advice work.

    We represent and advise all state agencies and most colleges and universities on labor and employment issues, including labor negotiations and arbitrations, anti-discrimination laws, wage laws, public disclosure laws, and state and federal family and medical leave laws. We also handle civil litigation related to wage and hour law, and public disclosure. Our attorneys have significant client contact, and also appear before administrative boards, independent arbitrators, and in state and federal courts. Our practice is dynamic and challenging, and requires the exercise of diplomatic skills on top of legal advocacy.

    This full-time position is located in Tumwater, and involves occasional travel, depending on client assignments and hearing locations.

    The Labor & Personnel Division provides superb legal services in the areas of employment and labor law. We collaborate with each other and our clients in a workplace where teamwork and humor are highly valued.

    Qualifications

    The successful candidate will have:

    • An expressed interest in the practice of public sector law;

    Duties

    The Washington State Attorney General's Office's Labor and Industries Division is seeking an attorney to fill the Section Chief position of its Tumwater Section. The LNI division consists of 104 attorneys and professional staff housed in Tumwater and Seattle sections. The division handles litigation and advice for the Department of Labor and Industries in a broad array of areas including: Industrial Insurance, Worker Health and Safety, Employer Audits, Employment Standards, Wage Theft, Building Trades and Crime Victim's Compensation. The workload includes client advice and high-volume, fast-paced litigation before the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals and the Office of Administrative Hearings, Washington Superior Courts and Courts of Appeal and Federal Courts.


    The Section Chief partners with the Division Chief and other division leaders to provide exceptionally-professional legal services and foster and maintain a collaborative workplace environment that is supportive, productive and innovative. The Tumwater Section Chief leads four attorney team leaders and sixteen talented attorneys who advise and represent the Department of Labor and Industries regarding a variety of matters including: wage and hour, workers' compensation, industrial safety and health, building trades, APA, public records and public contracting. The Section Chief coaches and mentors; listens actively to team members regarding resource needs, workload balance, client needs, and professional development interests; assists with attorney and professional staff recruitment; facilitates section meetings; and provides input into performance evaluations of section attorneys, in collaboration with attorney team leaders. The Section Chief will handle client program assignments in addition to supervisory responsibilities.
