    Birthday Bashes: How to Throw a Successful Party, from Themed Parties to Last Minute Get-Togethers

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    When:
    Tuesday, August 6th, 2013, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
    Where:
    Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, 1201 Third Ave., Floor 22, Seattle, WA 98101
    RSVP: through Big Tent (preferred if you are a MAMAS member) or by email to donnacochener@dwt.com. Please identify if you will attend in person in Seattle or if you will participate by phone.PLEASE RSVP AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE SO WE CAN HAVE ENOUGH CAKE!
    Birthday parties are an important moment for you and your child, so come get some tips from experienced MAMAS on how to plan a successful party, whether it’s a long-planned, themed affair or something you’ve thrown together with very little time left over from your busy life. As a bonus, we will have a brief seminar on the right way to order a birthday cake along with some delicious cake samples courtesy of Morfey’s Cakes. We’ll also have some time at the end to talk about other party ideas, so please come prepared to share your own tips and pitfalls to avoid!
    Lisa Anderl. Lisa is an associate general counsel at CenturyLink where she represents the company in regulatory proceedings in Washington and Idaho. In addition to being an accomplished attorney, Lisa is the owner of Morfey’s Cake Shoppe in lower Queen Anne. In the past 5 years the shop has produced delicious birthday and other party cakes at the rate of nearly 200 per month! She and her husband Matt and their chocolate lab Rufus live on Mercer Island.
    Ellen Blanchard. Ellen is the Associate General Counsel and Director of eDiscovery Consulting at Evolver Legal Services. She has a very precocious 4 year old daughter who keeps her on her toes daily. Becoming a mother has not dampened her desire to open her house for entertaining although the parties are much tamer these days. One of her favorite things to plan is crazy themed birthday parties ranging from pirates to dinosaurs to ponies.
    Donna Cochener. Donna is a partner at Davis Wright Tremaine where she specializes in corporate finance, public securities compliance and mergers and acquisitions. She has a very busy household with two small and very energetic boys ages 4 ½ and 5 months, and also serves as the chairman of the board of her family-owned company, Cochener Garvey Capital Partners. Despite not having much time to devote to party planning, Donna still loves to throw a party and has considerable experience at pulling together a party without devoting a lot of time to the planning.
    Laurie Johnston. Laurie Johnston is the Director, Global Legal Services – Employment for Expeditors International of Washington. At Expeditors, Laurie’s practice focuses on preventive employment counseling and compliance. Laurie provides general advice on a full range of workplace issues, including performance issues, terminations, disability accommodations, religious accommodations, the FMLA and ADA. She also helps prevent problems by developing policies, forms, practices and training that address both the company’s legal needs and its business realities. As a private practitioner, Laurie has litigated a broad range of subjects, including claims for employment discrimination and harassment, class actions, defamation, wage and hour violations, FMLA compliance, employee disability and other workplace legal issues. She has also defended charges and suits brought before the EEOC, the Washington Human Rights Commission, and Labor & Industries. More importantly, Laurie has two childrenundefinedConnor, a six-year-old boy, and Alex, an eight year-old-girlundefinedboth of whom love a good birthday party.
    We encourage you to attend our brown bag meeting in person to facilitate both networking and a lively discussion (and for cake!).
    Please bring your lunch and join us for this presentation, and meet fellow MAMAS members! Cake samples will be provided.
    For those who cannot attend in person, we offer the option to participate by phone (but sadly, without cake).
    Call in #: 888-757-0729; Passcode: 1396142354#
    When attending via telephone, please use your mute button to prevent background noise, but do not place the call on hold. Some firms have hold music, which is disruptive to the presentation. If you need to leave the call briefly, please hang up and call back in when you are able.
