    Job Description: The office currently has an Assistant United States Attorney position available in the Criminal Division, Yakima branch office. The attorney selected will be part of a dedicated team assisting in the enforcement and prosecution of federal criminal laws. The primary assignments for this attorney will be the investigation and prosecution of white collar fraud and economic crimes, but will also include a wide-range of criminal matters involving firearms, drug trafficking, immigration, counterfeiting, child exploitation, explosives, and violent crimes. This is a full-time, permanent position.

    The branch office is located in the city of Yakima in central Washington. The Eastern District of Washington is comprised of 20 counties and is bordered by Canada to the north, Oregon to the south, Idaho to the east, and the summit of the Cascade Mountains to the west. This area is rich in rolling farm land, forested mountains, and arid desert. Because this area celebrates four distinct seasons, recreational opportunities are numerous and include, bicycling, hiking, snow skiing, water sports, fishing and hunting.     Qualifications: 

    Required qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar (any jurisdiction), and have at least 4 years post-J.D. experience. United States citizenship is required.

    Preferred qualifications: Applicants must possess excellent research and writing skills, superior oral communication skills, and a demonstrated capacity to function, with minimal guidance, in a highly demanding environment. Ideal applicants will possess significant trial or other relevant experience involving white collar fraud and/or economic crimes. Applicants must exhibit the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with attorney team leaders, attorneys, staff, and client agencies.

    Salary: Assistant United States Attorneys' pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $45,477 to $120,365 plus locality pay where authorized.

    Travel: The attorney selected for this position in the Yakima branch office will travel frequently to Richland, which is approximately 85 miles from Yakima, and occasionally to Spokane which is approximately 200 miles from Yakima.

    About the Position

    The Court Administrator guides a staff of 26 employees and oversees an annual operating budget of nearly $16 million. The Court Administrator is responsible for directing and coordinating all administrative and operational functions of the Court and allocating resources in a manner that maximizes efficiency in court operations and enhances service to the public. More specifically, this position oversees talent management, labor relations, facilities, probation services, the operation of the court rooms including docket preparation, case management, courtroom coverage, jury administration, interpreter services, court security, media relations, and ADA accommodation.

    Under the direction of the Presiding Judge, the Court Administrator carries out the following functions:

    Strategic Planning:

The preferred candidate will have substantial executive court administration experience and experience using administrative best practices in local government and judicial operations.     QUALIFICATIONS:

    For many years, Columbia Legal Services has represented some of the most marginalized people in our community. We use every legal tool available on their behalf.     Position
    Columbia Legal Services seeks a full-time Directing Attorney to supervise the advocacy of our six-person Economic Justice Project. The Directing Attorney will:
    • Direct the activities of the project group, including assigning, supervising, managing, and defining the scope of work on complex litigation, class actions, legislative advocacy, and other policy work. The Directing Attorney maintains their own caseload, as well.
    • Serve as an effective liaison across project groups and throughout statewide and national networks to identify opportunities and execute strategies to advance fairness and to stop exploitative practices against low-income people, particularly on issues affecting consumers, homeowners and tenants.
    • Actively advance the professional development of team members, and provide mentorship, support and resources to enable the team to perform at the highest level. 
    • Work with organizational leadership to oversee and advance large-scale, strategic organization-wide initiatives.
    • Be available to travel occasionally around the state to attend meetings, advance policy, and supervise staff members. This position may be based in Olympia or Seattle. 


    Qualifications
    • Minimum of five years of complex litigation and multi-forum advocacy; two years in a supervisory role.
    • Experience with broad economic justice issues, such as consumer protection, predatory lending, debt collection, foreclosure, or related areas of law.
    • Demonstrated initiative and creativity, commitment to social and economic justice, and the ability to master new legal areas and operate at a high advocacy level.

    Program Description
    For many years, Columbia Legal Services has represented some of the most marginalized people in our community. We use every legal tool available on their behalf. Our role to serve people and use advocacy that might otherwise not be available makes our work an integral part of the Washington Alliance for Equal Justice. Our vision of justice is when people have the necessary tools and opportunity to achieve social and economic justice, a more equitable and inclusive society is possible. Through large-scale litigation, policy reform, and innovative partnerships, our lawyers and staff work in furtherance of our mission. The ideal candidate for any position at Columbia Legal Services will be able to articulate their role in the achievement of that vision.


    Position
    Columbia Legal Services seeks a full-time Directing Attorney to supervise the litigation and policy initiatives of our nine-person Children and Youth Project. The Directing Attorney will:
    • Direct the activities of the project group, including assigning, supervising, managing, and defining the scope of work on complex litigation, class actions, legislative advocacy and other policy work. The Directing Attorney maintains their own caseload, as well.
    • Serve as an energetic and effective liaison across project groups and throughout statewide and national networks to identify opportunities and execute strategies to advance the law in improving opportunities for Washington’s children and youth to have safe and stable families and homes, quality education, health care, and economic stability.
    • Actively advance the professional development of team members, and provide mentorship, support and resources to enable the team to perform at the highest level. 
    • Work with organizational leadership to oversee and advance large-scale, strategic organization-wide initiatives.
    Be available to travel around the state to attend meetings, advance policy, and supervise staff members based in our Olympia and Kennewick offices.

    Qualifications
    • Minimum of five years of complex litigation and multi-forum advocacy; two years in a supervisory role.
    • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and vision.
    • Commitment to and experience with broad children and youth advocacy issues, such as education, juvenile justice, health care, foster care, youth homelessness, immigrant youth, or related areas of law.
    • Excellent communication, research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills.
    • Ability to lead a team advancing a variety of work and projects simultaneously.
    • Cultural competence and experience working with or on behalf of low-income client communities.
    • Member of Washington State Bar or prepared to seek admission as soon as possible upon hiring. 
    • Spanish language skills a plus.
