When a Petition for Review is filed contesting a hearing decision, you will review the written record of the adjudicative proceedings and render the Department's final administrative decision.

    In this role, you will assist in providing strategic and innovative leadership for the OJCR Investigations Unit supporting the effective operations of the Investigations Unit. You will report to the Chief Investigator and assist in developing and presenting training and prevention work for internal and external customers and may be called upon to testify before an arbitrator, Personnel Resources Board, civil trial, or other related tribunals. You will use your expert knowledge of civil rights laws to triage incoming allegations and assess whether a further investigation by the OJCR is appropriate. You will be challenged to think outside the box and improve upon existing processes and procedures in conducting meaningful investigations.  You will follow and may develop best practices to create an influential program supportive of the agency’s mission and culture.

    Announcement of Appellate Law Clerk Opportunity Judge J. Michael (“Mike”) Díaz, of the Washington Court of Appeals, Division One, is seeking to hire a term law clerk to start on August 16, 2024. The term will end on or about August 15, 2026. Judge Diaz will begin accepting applications on June 1, 2023 and will consider applications beginning on June 12, 2023, until the position is filled. Interviews will be conducted, if possible, the week of June 19, with hiring offers to be made in early July.

    The Court of Appeals handles appeals from Washington courts of general jurisdiction in all areas of law, including criminal, civil, and domestic matters. Judge Díaz seeks applicants with varied personal and professional backgrounds, who are interested in rigorous legal research and precise legal writing, in a collaborative and collegial environment. Candidates must be law school graduates or have completed the APR 6 law clerk program (or equivalent). Practicing attorneys are encouraged to apply. The law clerk salary is subject to state law and law clerks also receive state employee benefits.

    As a Health Law Judge (HE3), you’ll be supporting the Department’s mission to protect public health by providing efficient, fair, impartial, and consistent adjudicative process for all litigants. As a member of the Adjudicative Services Office (ASO), Health Law Judges (HLJs) conduct judicial proceedings and function as presiding officers in cases where the disciplining authority is either the Secretary of Health or one of the various Boards or Commissions, which regulate healthcare practitioners or facilities, Certificate of Need, WIC and other Department of Health programs.

    Required Qualifications.

     

    • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited Law School
    • Admission to the Washington State Bar Association and in good standing.
    • Three (3) years of litigation, trial practice or judicial experience in the past seven years.

     

    NOTE: Trial practice is defined as frequent appearances as an attorney in a court of general jurisdiction or an administrative law tribunal. Judicial experience is defined as experience as a judge in a court of general jurisdiction or an administrative law tribunal in which the rules of evidence are applied.
