LEWIS & CLARK LAW SCHOOL

VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITIONS

2017-2019

Lewis & Clark Law School is now accepting applications for two visiting assistant professor (VAP) positions. Each VAP position will run for the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 academic years. One VAP position is in Lewis & Clark Law School’s top-ranked environmental, natural resources and energy law program. The other VAP position is in Lewis & Clark Law School’s highly ranked lawyering program. Depending upon curricular needs, selected VAPs may teach courses in other programs as well.

The position is ideal for those interested in transitioning to a career in academia. VAPs will have the opportunity to focus on teaching, scholarly research, and writing in preparation for that transition. Each VAP will teach three courses per academic year and write at least one article or other scholarly piece per year. VAPs will receive mentoring from Lewis & Clark Law School’s full-time faculty. VAPs will also participate in faculty colloquia, committees, special visitor events, and other professional and social engagements throughout the academic year.

Ideal candidates will have a J.D., at least 2 years of practical experience, the ability to teach and communicate effectively, and strong writing and research skills. We strongly encourage applications from persons in groups historically underrepresented in the legal profession. Ideal candidates will have experience working with diverse populations, demonstrated ability to contribute to campus diversity efforts, and/or evidence of cultural competence.

Lewis & Clark Law School is located in Portland, Oregon. The members of our faculty have a diverse array of interests and expertise, providing the opportunity for the exchange of stimulating ideas and scholarship.

The VAP receives a salary of $50,000 per year, plus contribution towards benefits. The VAP will have a private office and access to our excellent library resources.
