    Creating a financial plan can be daunting. This presentation will outline three pieces to building financial security for your lifetime and outline steps for implementing them.

    Julie Prince, CLU, has owned her firm, Prince Financial Services, since March, 1989, and has been affiliated with Northwestern Mutual since then as well.  Julie provides customized recommendations for financial planning in several areas, including fee-based financial planning, wealth management, trust services, education funding, and investment strategies.  Julie specializes in working with professionals and business owners and loves to work with and empower women!

     Learn the dos and don'ts of negotiating your own compensation by applying effective negotiation techniques. Laurel Bellows, Past ABA President, will moderate a panel discussion using video clips of effective and ineffective negotiations as discussion prompts. Issues addressed will include origination credit, intelligence gathering, and differing compensation systems.

     This webinar is directed toward equity partners and also will provide equity track women attorneys with valuable information they will need in the future. It offers tools to ensure that pay is comparable to contribution so that women will be less likely to leave their places of employment and the legal profession altogether.

    “Why Prosecutors Might Do Bad Things”

     

    Professor Burke, Professor of Law and Hofstra Research Fellow at Hofstra University teaches criminal law and criminal procedure subjects. Her research intersects criminal law and procedure and focuses on policing and prosecutorial policies. She has written about prosecutorial decision making, community policing and non-punitive responses to crime problems, and the criminal law’s treatment of domestic violence, both in punishing batterers and in explaining the conduct of battered women.

     

    Before joining the law school faculty in 2001, Professor Burke served as a deputy district attorney in Portland, Oregon, where she tried more than 30 criminal cases, primarily against domestic violence offenders, and helped innovate neighborhood-based prosecution methods.

    Professor Burke serves as a legal and trial commentator for various television and radio programs. She is also the author of nine bestselling crime novels.

    Gonzaga Law Review Call for Submissions

    Deadline February 2015

     

    Dear Washington State Bar Association Members,

     

    The Gonzaga Law Review is seeking articles for its upcoming third volume of the 50th Anniversary Edition.  Articles may have an academic or practical focus and should address topics related to the legalization of marijuana.

     

    Submissions for this edition will be due by the end of February 2015, with a final date to be determined.  If you have already written an article, please feel free to submit it to the email address below.  If you are interested in publishing and have yet to start on an article, please feel free to contact the Review to discuss the requirements for publication.

    Just a reminder that nominations for the 2015 Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Awards are due Monday, December 1st.  The award, sponsored  by the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession, will be presented on Sunday, August 2, 2015 in Chicago. 

     Do you know an outstanding woman lawyer who has achieved professional excellence in her field and has paved the way to success for other women lawyers?

    The ABA Commission on Women in the Profession is seeking nominations for the 25th Annual Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Awards. These awards will be presented at a luncheon on Sunday, August 2, 2015, during the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago.

     The deadline to submit the nomination form and supporting materials is the close of business on Monday, December 1, 2014.
