Hate crimes in Washington State increased 42% in 2017. In this current climate of increased hate, it is more important than ever to understand the legal distinction between hate speech and free speech. The Cardozo Society and the Middle Eastern Legal Association of Washington (MELAW) are proud to present a CLE symposium – “Protecting Speech Freedoms in a Climate of Hate” – examining the line between hate and free speech from a variety of legal perspectives.
