    Job Summary: The Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer (“Executive Director”) is responsible for advancing the mission of the World Justice Project by leading its work, including support and leadership of its entire staff while maintaining a safe, meritocratic workplace. The Executive Director has a prominent role in strategic planning and is responsible for the execution of those plans under the supervision of the Board of Directors and Officers. The Executive Director acts as an ambassador to the rule of law community. The Executive Director brings general management skills to the enterprise.

    Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below. Some of these responsibilities are fulfilled through supervision of other staff members who have direct responsibility for certain functions.

    • Represent WJP in its communications and relationships with all pertinent constituencies, including domestic and international supporters, funders, collaborators, scholars, and other organizations and stakeholders; 
       
    • Advance WJP 217;s three lines of business – Research and Scholarship; the WJP Rule of Law Index; and Engagement (which includes strategic convenings, a virtual network of rule of law enterprises, and a library of practical, locally led programs);  
       
    • Expand the network of rule of law advocates around the world; 
       
    • Work with the Board, Officers, and staff to achieve the goals of the Project;
       
    • Actively manage and lead the staff. Create and maintain a workplace that is safe (free from sexual harassme nt or any form of invidious discrimination), diverse, performance-based, and high-integrity. Set an example of civility, decorum, and respect for the dignity of co-workers;
       
    • Maintain a workplace in compliance with applicable state, federal and local employment laws, rules and regulations; 
       
    • Manage the financial affairs of the WJP, including preparation of an annual budget and proper control and disbursement of WJP funds;
       
    • Enhance fundraising to support WJP operations; 
       
    • Oversee administration of grants; 
       
    • Act as a resource for the Board and Officers; 
       
    • Perform such other duties as assigned by the Board or the Officers. 

    Basic Qualifications: 

    • A law degree and/or other graduate degree such as an MA, MBA, or PhD; 
       
    • A demonstrated interest in and understanding of the issues and opportunities which are the focus of the World Justice Project;
       
    • Work experience with an international focus; 
       
    • Prior employment involving organizational management, including responsibility for supervision and leadership of staff, bu dgeting, communications both internal and external, and public speaking;
       
    • Experience and success in fundraising; 
       
    • Experience with analysis of financial data and preparation of financial reports; 
       
    • An understanding of the modalities involved with the gathering and interpretation of data;
       
    • Experience with grants and grant administr ation is preferred.

    Location: The primary offices of the World Justice Project are located in Washington, D.C. and Seattle, Washington. Residence of the Executive Director in the Washington, D.C. office is preferred.

    Travel: The position requires substantial domestic and international travel.

    Part-Time Employment Litigation Attorney - Contract

     

    The De Novo team at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is searching for a part-time, Washington-barred contract attorney in the Seattle area to support the Employment Law practice group with employment litigation in insurance-related matters. 

     

    Attorneys with prior experience in medium/large employment defense firms who are looking for more flexible hours are encouraged to apply.  The engagement will be on a part-time basis at 20-30 hours per week with the ability to work remotely.  A basic home office set up will be provided.

     

    The ideal candidate will have: 

     

    • 5+ years of employment litigation experience, with specific experience handling single plaintiff discrimination matters in an employment litigation insurance context.  
    • Availability to work an average of 20-30 hours per week. Subject to deadlines and certain time constraints, the attorney could largely set their own “office hours”. 
    • Ability to work remotely, with availability to come into DWT’s Seattle office as needed;
    • Availability for occasional, limited travel.  This is a flexible requirement and can be discussed as the need arises.
    • Strong writing skills and the ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders, both within DWT and the client.
    • Ability to work independently and exercise ownership over projects.

     

    The attorney will be classified as a contract attorney and will be employed by DWT.  Because this position does not provide benefits, the attorney will not average more than 29 hours per week.  Compensation will be on an hourly basis, ranging from $75-90/hour depending on experience and skill level.

    Victims of Crime (VOCA) Staff Attorney

    Program Role

    SCLS is a free legal aid program, founded in 1983, serving Snohomish County residents experiencing poverty. SCLS’ staff, pro bono attorneys and volunteers provide information, advice and legal representation to ensure meaningful access to justice regardless of individual barriers and needs.

    VOCA Staff Attorney – Job Description

    SCLS’ VOCA Staff Attorney will provide civil legal assistance in Snohomish County to 1.) survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and harassment, and also 2.) parents/custodians of children who have experienced criminal abuse, neglect, kidnapping, custodial interference, or other family-related criminal victimization, in order to help clients and families achieve safety and stability. Such civil legal assistance will include advice and counsel, brief services through clinic programs and pro se assistance, extended representation and in-court litigation. The substantive types of cases handled will include all types of protection orders, family law proceedings, sealed name changes, and representation of victim-witnesses in regards to discovery during criminal prosecutions of perpetrators. The VOCA Staff Attorney will also recruit and mentor pro bono volunteer attorneys to assist with such cases.

    Primary Responsibilities

          Provide legal assistance to clients in urgent situations prior to cases being referred to a pro bono attorney in order to ensure the safety of the survivor and their children. Services may include advice, brief services, or representation depending on the needs of the case.

          Draft necessary legal pleadings and appear in court on behalf of clients who are eligible and need legal triage.

          Participate in case review with SCLS’ Family Law staff and Executive Director, for case evaluation and assessment.

             Collaborate with other VOCA funded and victim serving agencies including legal services providers and community based domestic violence advocacy programs to improve delivery of services.

             Collaborate with SCLS’ family law programs and assist in program development and enhancement.

             Recruit and supervise/mentor interns, externs and volunteers as needed

             Work on joint projects with other SCLS programs as needed

             Participate in general volunteer recruitment and recognition as needed

    Qualifications

             Licensed to practice law in Washington

             Prefer two or more years of experience in family law; including courtroom and trial experience

             Substantial experience and working with survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault, or other crime victims

             Experience working with low-income clients, and clients from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds

             Good organizational and communication (written and oral) skills; Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

             Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others as well as independently.

             Demonstrated commitment to public service.

             Demonstrated ability to work with limited English proficient clients and clients with physical or mental disabilities

             Demonstrated ability to work well in an environment exposed to secondary trauma

             Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and LegalServer or other case management software
