    As the person primarily responsible for the administrative and executive support of The National Conference of Women’s Bar Associations (NCWBA), the Executive Director is responsible for day-to-day management of the NCWBA’s affairs, with the guidance and authorization of the Board of Directors. The Executive Director assists in the planning, direction, execution, and evaluation of NCWBA programs and services. The Executive Director represents NCWBA to its member organizations, external stakeholders, vendors, and the general public. The Executive Director oversees communications and manages information technology resources used in supporting the operation of the association, including updating the association’s website and social media postings. The Executive Director works independently in an office provided by the candidate. Cloud-based software and a commercial phone line are provided by the NCWBA.     PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Serve as ACLU-WA’s lead lobbyist in the state legislature, working full-time in Olympia during session and traveling across the state for district meetings during the interim.
    • Lead the development of the ACLU-WA’s state legislative goals and the creation of strategies and messaging to advance them in Olympia.
    • In collaboration with ACLU-WA team members across the organization, develop and implement strategies for working with directly impacted stakeholders, allied organizations, and others to achieve legislative goals.
    • Review legislative proposals, assess their political viability, and evaluate whether and how the ACLU should engage. Coordinate legal analysis, research, and drafting of legislative proposals with ACLU-WA team members and cooperating attorneys. 
    • Persuasively represent the ACLU-WA’s interests in the state legislative process, and at local levels as appropriate, to lawmakers, executive agencies, and stakeholders.
    • Support development of a plan to grow ACLU-WA’s lobbying capacity.
    • Build trusted relationships with lawmakers, agency decision makers, and staff by providing clear, fact-based analysis and resources.
    • In coordination with other ACLU-WA team members, represent the ACLU to coalition partners and before community, government, and academic groups. 
    • Collaborate across departments to prepare issue briefs, action alerts, and talking points, and explain ACLU legislative positions to local media.
    • Collaborate with national ACLU staff regarding issues and legislative strategies for advancing the ACLU’s agenda at the federal level.
    • Supervise ACLU-WA legislative session support staff and contract lobbyist(s), if any.  Report regularly to the Political Director.
    • Contribute to a positive, respectful, welcoming, and professional work environment for employees and volunteers.
    • Attend various ACLU functions and handle other projects as assigned.
     
    QUALIFICATIONS
    • Substantial knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to civil rights and civil liberties.  A law degree is preferred but candidates with other forms of expertise in the law and civil rights will be considered.
    • At least three years of local, state, or federal legislative and/or policy advocacy with a focus on issues of civil rights, civil liberties, or criminal justice.
    • Excellent leadership skills to develop allies and to facilitate communication and collaboration among them. Demonstrated ability to work with groups and individuals across the political spectrum.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; a "quick study" on an array of dynamic issues. Ability to stay organized in a fast-paced environment both in the office and on the road, to manage several projects simultaneously, and to adjust to frequently changing demands.
    • An understanding of racial justice issues and experience with the development and implementation of advocacy strategies that center the voices and lived experiences of directly affected communities.
    • Experience working in collaboration and coalition with diverse community partners and allies, and an appreciation of the nuances and potential conflicts in the ways in which diverse communities may be affected by our work.

    • Ability to work overtime and irregular hours, and to attend evening meetings.     About the Position

    The City of Olympia is accepting applications for two contract public defenders to represent indigent defendants in the Olympia Municipal Court. Position one is a 280 case credit max position with an opportunity to carry a misdemeanor/gross misdemeanor caseload. Position two is a 300 case credit max position with primary focus on working as an attorney of the day in community court, appear on the out of custody arraignment calendar, and carry an adjusted misdemeanor/gross misdemeanor caseload.

    Applicants must be a member in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association with a minimum of five years criminal defense experience. Experience handling public defense cases is preferred. Contract period for both positions run from January 1st, 2019 through December 31st, 2019, with a possible option to renew.

    The flat rate monthly compensation for position one is anticipated to be based on the following scale: 280 case credits/year=$5,786.66/month.

    The flat rate monthly compensation for position two is anticipated to be based on the following scale: 300 case credits/year=$6,200/month.

    The Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is located in downtown Tacoma and employs approximately 213 staff, which includes over 100 deputy prosecutors. Pierce County has a population of 813,600 and growing. The office is comprised of the Criminal Division, which includes the Homicide and Violent Crimes Division, Major Crimes Division, Misdemeanor Division, Juvenile Division, Appeals Division, Investigative Services Division, and Victim-Witness Assistance Services Division. The Criminal Division reviews more than 22,800 criminal cases every year. The office's Civil Division provides legal advice to county officials and represents the county's interests in court. The Family Support Division protects the best interests of children.

    NATURE OF WORK

    This position involves complex professional legal work as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in the Civil Division, acting as advisor to the Facilities Management Department and other clients as assigned. Duties include properly analyzing and preparing real property instruments for transactions of the County whether as buyer, seller, lessee, lessor, or otherwise, and handling any related litigation. The attorney will also provide accurate and timely legal advice and representation to assigned clients and departments on a wide range of municipal issues.

    An attorney in this classification exercises independent judgment, initiative and resourcefulness in analyzing complex situations and providing legal advice concerning potential courses of action. Duties are performed with professional discretion and within office guidelines, professional ethics and standards, and legal requirements. This is an exempt position, covered by a collective bargaining agreement, with optional union membership.

    Position Summary

    Provides Pierce County legal representation in connection with real property transactions.

    Analyzes and prepares documents for the County's commercial real estate transactions and is often involved in legal negotiations.

    Advises and represents Facilities Management and other county officials as assigned.

    Drafts legal opinions, pleadings and memoranda.

    Handles litigation as assigned.

This Integrated Rural Legal Assistance Project (IRLAP) position is funded under the federal Victims of Crime Act provided through a sub-contract with the state Office of Civil Legal Aid. NJP anticipates continued receipt of these funds and the positions are not subject to any specific grant or contract term. This is a full-time position, located in Aberdeen, WA. NJP now seeks applications from qualified attorneys to undertake mission directed work statewide to address the civil legal needs of persons who have been victims of crime who experience related civil legal needs. Such crimes include, but are not limited to violent crimes, such as domestic violence, sexual assault, rape, assault, human trafficking, as well as wage theft, fraud and other financial exploitation. The crime need not have been prosecuted or reported to law enforcement for the victim to receive civil legal services through NJP. The project will primarily, but not exclusively, target services to victims who have significant barriers accessing civil legal assistance due to rural isolation, limited access, limited English proficiency, immigration status and other factors, making certain crime victims particularly vulnerable to civil legal issues arising from their having been a victim of a crime.     CLEAR Crime Victims (CV)-VOCA Staff Attorney The Northwest Justice Project (NJP) is a not-for-profit statewide law firm that pursues its mission through legal representation, community partnerships, and education to combat injustice and promote the long-term well-being of low-income individuals, families, and communities throughout Washington. NJP seeks applications from qualified attorneys to fill a Staff Attorney position in our CLEAR Crime Victims (CV) unit. This position is funded under the federal Victims of Crime Act, through a sub-contract with the state Office of Civil Legal Aid. NJP anticipates continued receipt of these funds and the positions are not subject to any specific grant or contract term. This is a full-time position located in Seattle. CLEAR CV is an exciting NJP project that collaborates statewide with domestic violence and crime victim services partner agencies to address the civil legal needs of crime victims across the state. CLEAR CV attorneys meet telephonically with clients through an appointment system and provides advice, brief consultation, limited, and intensive pro se assistance to victims, and referral to an NJP field office or other resource for extended representation as needed. Much, but not all, of the legal work relates to the immediate safety, ongoing protection, family law needs. CLEAR CV attorneys also assist DV victims and general crime victims with non-family civil legal needs such as housing, consumer debt, education, employment and public assistance as part of services to crime victims. CLEAR CV services are designed to empower victims of crime to obtain ongoing protections and stability needed to overcome trauma and the consequences of victimization The CLEAR CV-VOCA Attorney is also the designated back-up to VOCA-funded Staff Attorneys in NJP’s Seattle and Kent offices to ensure continuity of services when field office, direct representation capacity is unavailable for extended periods of time. During these times, the CLEAR CV-VOCA Attorney would provide direct and in-court representation to VOCA clients as appropriate. SUMMARY OF DUTIES:  Conduct telephone based client interviews. Provide advice and, as appropriate, legal assistance, which may range from verbal or written advice, to negotiating a resolution on the client's behalf;  Use a computerized system for contemporaneous recording of client information and case notes, conflict checking, case management, and determining appropriate referrals;  Maintain familiarity with areas of civil law affecting the low-income communities in Washington.  Engage with partners in the legal services delivery system;  Develop self-help and legal education materials for the client community;  Communicate about any matters relating to program integrity and the equal justice needs of the client community including program priorities and delivery system concerns;  When necessary, provide direct, in-person advocacy, including litigation to address client legal needs arising from the consequences of victimization.     Job Announcement Case Management Data Specialist The Northwest Justice Project (NJP) is Washington’s largest legal aid program, interacting with more than 20,000 applicants and clients each year. NJP records data for case and client tracking, grant compliance and reporting, and strategic development and assessment of outcomes. NJP utilizes LegalServer, an online case management system (CMS), to store information and documents relating to people, cases, and projects, including case outcomes and advocate time keeping. The Case Management Data Specialist will maintain and optimize the LegalServer CMS to best meet executive, administrative, user, and client-related data needs for both internal management needs, and various grants management and standardized reporting needs. The Case Management Data Specialist will utilize and identify useful LegalServer functionalities, develop dashboards, queries, and other methods to analyze, compile, and present CMS data in readily understandable formats. The Specialist will conduct proactive and periodic review of client/case data to ensure compliance with regulatory and funder requirements. The Specialist will also work with advocacy staff using GIS software/methodologies to assess and forecast client service needs, service delivery, and program efficiency. The Case Management Data Specialist works with NJP advocate and non-legal staff and reports to the Operations Director. The Case Management Data Specialist is principally responsible for maintaining and optimizing NJP’s CMS, monitoring the integrity of the data, and assisting with data extraction, presentation and analysis. GENERAL JOB DUTIES: • Manage, and assist with the evaluation and analysis of internal data, supplemented with external data as practicable, for use in planning, program development and assessment, resource development and other activities. • Maintain and update LegalServer configuration for purposes of grant and programmatic requirements and implement and educate staff on changes to the system, as needed. • Review regularly released, and currently unused, LegalServer enhancements, modules and features, to determine utility for NJP, in consultation with appropriate internal users, and evaluate impact on users.
