TRIAL ATTORNEY
The U.S. Department of Labor, Office of the Solicitor (SOL) seeks a top-quality, experienced trial attorney to join the San Francisco, CA, Seattle, WA, or Los Angeles, CA sub-Regional office. This is a full time, permanent GS-0905 position in the excepted service. This position has promotion potential to the GS-14 level. The Trial Attorney will handle all phases of litigation before federal courts and administrative bodies under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) and other statutes enforced by the Department. Demonstrated interest in public interest law and/or experience with employment laws and/or vulnerable worker populations is desirable. Ability to speak Chinese, Korean or Spanish is not required, but preferred. Must be active member of the California Bar if selected for San Francisco or Los Angeles.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a first professional law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) and active membership in good standing of the bar of a court of general jurisdiction of a state, territory or possession of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. In addition to being a member of the bar, applicants must have had the amount of post-law school legal experience indicated below. An LL.M may be substituted for a maximum of one year experience.

The qualifying experience must have been progressively responsible legal experience of a professional nature that demonstrates the ability to perform the work at the grade level for which application is being made. Qualifying experience in military service shall be counted as a continuation of any legal position held immediately prior to such service. The National Judicial College (NJC) is a private, not-for-profit organization providing quality continuing education to trial judges, administrative law judges, tribal judges, military judges and court personnel. The College also provides international judicial education. NJC is located on the campus of the University of Nevada in Reno.
The National Tribal Judicial Center at The National Judicial College is among the first institutions to address the needs of Native American and Alaska Native tribal law judiciaries. The curricula presented are innovative and sophisticated, designed to enhance the professional skills of tribal judges and tribal court professionals. The Center’s main objective is to improve justice through education and technical assistance, both national in scope as well as customized for the needs of specific tribes or regions.
NJC seeks a team-oriented individual to fill the position of program attorney for the National Tribal Judicial Center. Under the supervision of the academic director, program attorney responsibilities include developing academic courses on a variety of topics and issues especially in the area of tribal judicial education, preparing course materials, planning and conducting courses, delivering customized technical assistance to tribal courts, and seeking further funding to support the work of the National Tribal Judicial Center.
Graduation from an ABA-accredited school of law and bar admission to any state’s bar are required. Experience working with tribes or in tribal law is highly desired. The successful candidate must have demonstrated excellent organizational, writing, and communication skills. Further, the candidate must have two to five years of legal experience. Experience in continuing adult education and/or grant administration is preferred.
The salary range is 65-80k DOE plus excellent benefits. No relocation expenses are available for this position.

Under the direction of the Mayor, serve as chief legal advisor to the city as provided by the City Charter. Responsibilities include analyzing and representing the city in litigation and participating in short and long-range planning for the city to assure proper consideration of legal issues, as well as oversight of the city's risk management program, oversight of the city's Prosecutor's Office and directing a variety of legal services for all departments and divisions of the city, including City Administration and the City Council. Provide legal advice to guide city policies, decisions and activities; prepare or direct the preparation of ordinances, resolutions, deeds and contracts; prepare other legal documents for the city.

Direct or participate in litigations affecting the city, including damage suits by or against the city, suits for back pay or wages, suits affecting the city's municipal authority to zone and proceedings before judicial and quasi-judicial bodies.
Attend and participate in city, county, regional, state and national legal task forces, committees, associations and organizations on a variety of issues; provide legal counsel to local government associations on various issues as appropriate.
Direct or participate in the drafting and review of letters, ordinances, contracts, resolutions, policies, real estate documents and other legal documents enacted by the city to ensure proper wording, compliance with applicable laws, the carrying out of the city's intent, the limitation of the city's liability and the protection of the city's interest; issue opinion letters as required or requested.
Evaluate and award legal contracts to outside counsel; assign, direct and manage outside counsel work to assure compliance with specifications, city policies, time lines and legal requirements.
Direct and oversee district court and criminal matters; provide technical and legal advice in more complex criminal and prosecution matters; assure representation of the city in litigation, ranging from prosecuting city traffic and criminal ordinances to litigating major civil lawsuits at trial and appellate levels.
Track legal and policy issues of importance to the city; read legal journals and network to establish contacts and sources of information relevant to the city.
Draft and review proposed and enacted state and federal legislation for impact upon the city; recommend appropriate responses where necessary to protect the city's legal interests; analyze legal trends and developments impacting the city and recommend appropriate responses to actions.
Prepare annual and special budgets to enable the department to achieve its objectives; monitor and control budgets. Direct or participate in proceedings for the vacation of street condemnation of lands for municipal purposes, for land acquisition and for related legal transactions. Hire, train, assign, supervise and evaluate the work of professional and administrative legal staff; distribute work to assure proper and efficient work flow; review documents prepared by legal staff to assure adherence to proper legal principles and procedures and to assure that legal advice given to city clients is accurate, responsive and sensitive to political and policy issues. The Metropolitan King County Council hereby gives notice of judicial vacancy in the Northeast Electoral District of the King County District Court. The Council currently intends to fill this vacancy pursuant to state law and county code. To be eligible to serve as a district court judge in this position, an individual must be a registered voter and legal resident of the Northeast Division’s electoral district and a lawyer admitted to practice law in Washington State. RCW 3.34.060; K.C.C. 2.68.075. The election precincts that make up the Northeast Division’s electoral district are set forth in Attachment C to King County Ordinance 18886. Pursuant to KCC 2.70.020, to be considered for appointment, a candidate must have a current rating of, at a minimum, “qualified” for a district court judicial position from the King County Bar Association and at least one other bar association operating in King County with an eligible judicial candidate evaluation process, as defined in KCC 2.70.020.F.2. Under the County Code, ratings are “current” until the expiration date stated in the rating communication or until three years after the date the rating communication was issued if no expiration date is stated. Any individual wishing to be considered for appointment must deliver to the clerk of the council, in electronic form, the following:
