This position is a full-time, in-house consulting attorney position. MRSC’s legal consultants provide general guidance and training to local government staff and officials throughout Washington State on a wide range of issues, including the Public Records Act, Open Public Meetings Act, roles and responsibilities of elected and appointed officials, ethics and conflict of interest, personnel, legality of use of public funds, land use, and procurement and public works. The Legal Consultant is part of our 7-member legal team and reports to the Managing Attorney.
This position offers the opportunity to assist local governments in addressing a diverse array of legal issues. While being able to handle a broad range of municipal law topics, the candidate should also enjoy cultivating a deeper expertise in a specific area of law currently presenting challenges for local governments. Candidates with experience as local government legal counsel in Washington State are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates must be members in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association.
This position has the option of up to 100% remote work from a home office within Washington State with the exception of occasional travel for quarterly all-staff meetings & team-building events in the Seattle-Tacoma region and in-person training presentations within Washington State.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
Consult on legal questions from elected officials and staff from cities, counties, and special purpose districts throughout Washington State.
Regularly create content for MRSC’s website, publications, and other resources.
Write short blog posts about pertinent legal topics every 6-7 weeks.
Conduct trainings for and give presentations to attorneys, elected officials, and local government staff on various municipal law issues.
Work on special projects as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience providing direct legal counsel to cities, counties, and/or special purpose districts in Washington State. Applicants without direct legal counsel experience will be considered if they have outstanding qualifications.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain complicated legal concepts to elected officials and non-attorneys.
Motivation to actively identify and tackle challenges through proactive research and problem-solving.
Excellent customer service skills; enjoys working with a wide variety of local government employees and elected officials.

Description of position: Costco Wholesale is seeking an experienced commercial attorney to join the legal team at its corporate headquarters in Issaquah, Washington. Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

● Admission in good standing to practice law in at least one U.S. state, and eligible to practice as in-house counsel in the State of Washington.
● At least six years of general corporate and transactional experience acquired in a law firm, with some in-house experience preferred.
● Experience with compliance with laws governing retail operations and regulatory matters. Understanding of and experience with laws impacting international markets where Costco operates a plus.
● Experience with contract lifecycle management systems preferred but not essential.● Excellent business judgment and ability to assess legal risk while also thinking strategically and providing practical, business-oriented advice.

Salary and Benefits: The annual base salary range for this position is $135,000 to $185,000, depending upon years of legal experience. The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington is seeking qualified candidates from all backgrounds for the position of Career Law Clerk or Term Law Clerk for United States District Judge Tana Lin in Seattle, Washington. Please indicate in your letter of interest if you want to be considered for a term clerkship, career clerkship, or both. The term clerkship will
be for a minimum one-year term but may be extended by mutual agreement. Judge Lin prefers term clerks willing to serve for 18 to 24 months but this is not a mandatory requirement. The start date for this position is anticipated to be in or around October 2024.
All law clerks work closely with Judge Lin on civil and criminal litigation filed in District Court. Law clerks conduct research and prepare drafts of opinions and orders. Law clerks will be involved in courtroom proceedings, help administer a judicial extern program, and may have the opportunity to work on various long-term projects. Law Clerks are also responsible for some administrative duties in chambers. A Career Law Clerk may take on additional administrative responsibilities in chambers, generally assist in running chambers, and provide oversight for term law clerks and externs.
Candidates must be law school graduates from an accredited law school; be organized and work well independently; possess excellent research and writing skills; be experienced with Word, Westlaw, Lexis, and related software; and must have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and an inclusive work environment. Candidates for the Term Law Clerk position must have at least one year of federal clerkship experience or two years of litigation experience.
