Summary:
The Paralegal supports BECU’s attorneys by assisting with a variety of legal, regulatory and governance issues, such as drafting legal documents for review, conducting legal research, documenting analysis and maintaining records relating to foreclosure sales, bankruptcies, collections and other needs of the credit union. Under guidance of a BECU Attorney, the Paralegal will also assist with regulatory filings and draft pleadings and correspondence. The Paralegal maintains legal files and supports the maintenance of digital records. The Paralegal will also recommend process improvements and ensure written procedures are documented for all areas of responsibility.
In this job, you will:
- Perform all responsibilities in accordance with BECU Competencies, compliance, regulatory and Information Protection requirements.
Gather, organize, summarizes and index documents for various sources for upcoming, pending and potential litigation.
Assist in maintenance of digital records (engagement letters, conflict waivers, contracts, etc.).
Support attorneys by preparing documents and comment summaries, and revising and formatting documents. Draft pleadings, court filings, discovery requests and responses, and general correspondence.
Assist with preparation of recurring and one-time regulatory applications, state/federal/agency filings, questionnaires or applications required in connection with regulatory examinations, code of ethics disclosures, audits, insurance coverage, etc.
Maintain legal files and notes in the appropriate system.
Prepare and maintain written guidelines, procedures, and forms/templates.
Recommend process improvements for the department.
Ensure written procedures are documented for all areas of responsibility.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Working towards a paralegal certification from an ABA approved paralegal course preferred.
Minimum 3 years of related experience in a law firm or in-house legal department required; 5 years preferred.
Experience working for or with a credit union preferred.
Proficient verbal and written skills required to effectively communicate in the English language.
Effective case management and organizational skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Excellent judgment.
Full-time hours required, with additional hours as necessary.
