About Region 10 Honors Attorney Fellowships
The EPA Region 10 Honors Attorney Fellowship is designed for a recent law school graduate with excellent academic credentials and strong interests in an environmental law career and public service.
It provides an opportunity to practice law in a leading governmental environmental organization and to receive extensive training in and exposure to environmental law and policy work in the public sector.
Region 10 offers new Fellows significant responsibility, the opportunity to handle a challenging caseload that includes enforcement and counseling work, and extensive training and mentoring from experienced colleagues with recognized expertise. EPA offers a diverse and supportive work environment.
The Office of Regional Counsel is responsible for preparing administrative, judicial, and criminal cases against violators of environmental laws. These cases require the development and use of technical and legal strategies for negotiation and litigation.
Attorney caseloads are not confined to one industry, statute, state, or tribe. The primary statutes enforced by EPA are the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Toxic Substances Control Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (Superfund), and Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act. We work collaboratively with state, tribal, and local governments to implement national environmental laws.
In addition to preparing enforcement actions, attorneys are responsible for counseling the Regional Administrator and program directors on the interpretation of environmental laws, regulations, and policies. Furthermore, attorneys are expected to participate in civil or criminal litigation of cases referred to the Department of Justice and to represent the EPA in administrative proceedings.
The Office of Regional Counsel employs approximately 35 attorneys, plus support staff.

Businesses are recognizing and valuing diversity in the workforce more than ever before, and this is equally true in the legal profession. Clients and customers continue to request more diverse attorneys to work on their matters, as many believe diversity is a fundamental value that also offers better business outcomes. Women represent half the world’s population but continue to be under-represented in the legal profession at all attorney levels around the world.

Dear SCWLA members and friends,
This is a personal letter to the women lawyers of South Carolina, and to women lawyers everywhere.
The senseless massacre in Charleston this week has stunned, and saddened, all of us. Many of our members knew the people, good people, who were gunned down in what is being called, I fear correctly, a “hate crime.” I knew Reverend Pinckney myself.
As lawyers, this event calls us to rise up as defenders of equality, to stand up as protectors of liberty, and to speak up as crusaders against hatred. In a profound way, this unspeakable tragedy summons us to be our very best selves. So today, the women lawyers of South Carolina say to all involved, “We will not tolerate this conduct -- not here, not now, not ever.”
But, my friends, long before we ever opened a book to read the rule of law, there was another book written on our hearts. It is the book that teaches us, in this transitory life, to love our neighbors as ourselves. And it is this rule, above all others, that will carry us through this valley of the shadow.
In closing, I urge you to keep your hearts open. The survivors of this tragedy, the members of the historic church where the unthinkable happened, are setting this example for all of us. I, for one, am humbled by their forgiveness and strengthened by their faith.
With best personal wishes,
Marguerite Willis President ______________

Superior Court invites you to attend two informational Brown Bag lunch meetings to hear presentations from Corrections, Superior Court, and other criminal justice partners on how the move to the new jail will impact your daily work on criminal cases. Currently, we plan to start the first meeting with a panel presentation to provide information and will open the meeting to questions after presentations are complete. Because this topic will, we believe, generate much discussion and many questions, we plan to hold two different sessions. However, the panel presentation will only happen during the first meeting. Choosing the right school for your child can be challenging as there are so many great public and independent schools in the greater Seattle area. And after you have decided on a school, there may be times when you question whether the school is a good fit for your child’s abilities, learning style, and personality. Our guest speaker Anne Sarewitz is an independent educational consultant who is familiar with several different schools in the area and how they meet the needs of different types of students. Anne will be giving us some food for thought on what traits to look for in a school and how you can determine whether your child and the school are a good fit. She will also be available to answer any questions that MAMA Seattle members may have about being involved with their children’s schools and times when it may make sense to work with an educational consultant.
Anne Sarewitz has over 25 years of Seattle independent schools. Born and raised in Seattle, Anne attended Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart where she remains an active alumna. From 1988-1999, her 3 daughters attended Epiphany School where she had the opportunity to become very involved as a parent. She was the president of the parent association and auction chair among other parent activities. Also during that time, she served as president of the Board of Trustees for 4 years. As her children graduated and moved on to middle and upper school, Anne again became involved in the parent associations at both University Prep and Lakeside School. The volunteer opportunities were abundant, which allowed Anne to give back to the schools that were educating her children while also continuing to learn about how different independent schools operate.
In 2001, Anne was given the opportunity to go back to Epiphany School as their director of admission and financial aid. During her 11 year tenure as admission director at Epiphany, she had the pleasure of meeting hundreds of families looking for a good school fit for their children. Among her many responsibilities, one of her favorites was working with students moving on to middle school. Putting the pieces of the puzzle together to find a good fit for the student was a wonderful challenge for her.
Most recently, Anne has held the position of interim director of admissions and financial aid at The Bush School. Managing all aspects of Kindergarten-12th Grade admissions, she observed the "other side" of middle and upper school placement, from the perspective of the admitting school. Her thorough knowledge of the Seattle independent school admissions landscape gives her the opportunity to work with parents and students to find a school that is “right” for them.
We encourage you to attend our lunch seminar in person to facilitate both networking and a lively discussion.
