Washington Supreme Court Candidate Forum Sheryl Gordon McCloud and Richard Sanders October 18, 2012, 12:00-1:30pm Seattle Public Library 1000 Fourth Avenue, Seattle, Level 4, Room 1
Attend In-Person or via Live Webcast
As the highest level of court in Washington, the Washington Supreme Court is the state's "court of last resort." It is asked to review more than a 1,000 cases each year, issuing over 125 opinions annually. Most come from the state Court of Appeals, though cases can be appealed directly from Superior Court. In the Supreme Court, no witnesses are called or other evidence taken. Rather, the Court hears only legal issues, and decides the case based on the factual record developed in the trial court. The nine justices are elected statewide to staggered, six-year terms. After the August primary election, two candidates remain on the November ballot seeking to fill the seat of retiring Justice Tom Chambers. Both Sheryl Gordon McCloud and Richard Sanders have confirmed their participation in this event.
KCBA President Richard Mitchell will moderate the forum.
