The King County Superior Court is the largest county court of general jurisdiction in the state of Washington and is responsible for processing over 73,000 filings each year, including 470 jury trials annually. Among the types of cases heard are civil litigation matters; felony criminal cases; family law including dissolutions, child support, adoptions, parentage, and domestic-violence protection matters; probate and guardianship matters; juvenile offender matters; and mental illness and involuntary commitment matters. Fifty-three judges are elected county-wide, all standing for election every four years. Five positions are contested on the August ballot, and all thirteen candidates have been invited to participate in this event.
